How to Copyright your artwork

*Please note, this article is referring to copyright filings in the United States. The laws vary from country to country. Also, I am not a lawyer, if you have questions please consult your attorney, if you don’t have one I do recommend my lawyer, Kiffanie Stahle and her online community designed for us creatives (affiliate link).

Is Copyrighting Your Artwork Worth It?

Subscribe to my youtube channel for videos that help your art and art business.

This year I’ve learned more about copyright law than I wanted to, much in part due to necessity rather than desire.

For ease of reading, I’m going to call the…

As an artist and entrepreneur, the longevity of your art business success rests upon your ability to consistently generate revenue month after month.

This is why relying upon just one revenue stream (like selling art) or one class can sometimes be quite dangerous (2020 is proof of that). Just like multiple legs create stability for a chair, so too do multiple revenue streams create stability for your art business and desired lifestyle.

And one of the most effective and easiest ways to create additional income streams online is through the use of affiliate marketing. …

Do you feel pressure as an artist?

Do you put it on yourself, or is it coming from an outside source? You are not alone, every artist feels this pressure. The question is what do you do about it?

Nothing kills creativity more than pressure (for most of us, I know there are a few exceptions to the rule, and to you, my friend, I say, I’m jealous).

But for the rest of us who feel the pressure of creating, of making money with our art to somehow “justify” its existence or to ‘justify’ our desire to pursue this difficult, winding road of uncertainty I say this:

2 years ago on June 14th, I made the decision to no longer drink alcohol and I’m 2 years in and not a drop! ( Here is my declaration on 1 year :) )

My friends and family are proud. But most of all, I am very proud of myself.

Frankly, because this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

I fought the mental demons, I fought the physical desire, I fought the social pressures.

I fought and I won!

It is no longer a daily battle, but an occasional battle where I think “I’d love to get…

I get asked quite a bit why am I not using Society6, Redbubble, and other Print On Demand types of vendors? They make it so easy to use, right!

It is definitely true Society6, and Redbubble are seemingly easy to use. AND I have tried some and stopped using them because of 2 reasons: #1 Profit Margin and #2 Quality Control.

Now, I will also say that if you haven’t had any trouble with these providers, DO NOT sever the ties! Instead, add a new revenue stream by adding an Etsy/Woocommerce/Shopify shop with Gooten/Printify/Printiful.

That said, let’s dive in!

#1 Reason To Choose a Print On Demand — Profit Margin

In the previous episode of art business tips, we discussed the 3 types of Website providers: Sole Hosted, Specialized Artist Website Builder, and Marketplace provider where you were given the homework to review the options based on your requirements and identify which type best meets your needs.

In this episode, we are going to dive into the next requirement which is to actually have Print On Demand on your artist website to start that awesome additional income stream. …

There is a dark side of being a creator, a side that gets depressed, a side that doesn’t know if it is good enough or that struggles with obtaining validation that he/she is good enough. This is one of the imposter syndrome components and it is fueled by the Social Media narcissistic gods, Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok, etc.

The result of the dark side is a conflict between us seeking validation from what we create or creating for the love of creating.

When we create and wait on the social media gods to respond with 2000 likes or get a…

Here is how to recognize it and what to do about it.

Recently I went to a physic/medium to essentially see if I was cursed. It was a cool experience, she started talking to everyone in the room that I couldn’t see and listened to them (my husband gave me an eye roll when I told him this, but I’ve seen a ghost so…I believe there is more to this world than what is always visible).

This was my first experience with a psychic/medium, it was a moment of WTF and this is awesome. …

17 websites for royalty-free images

I have a ton of painting ideas of what I want to create and the imagery I want to portray, but in all honesty, I have zero interest in hiking the Appalacian mountain for the chance of getting a great picture or buying a plane ticket to go to Hong Kong to take a picture of Chinese lanterns. Nothing about that sounds fun to me.

Sure, I’ll do the easy things that I can do around my house, like take a picture of me flicking off the camera, stopping alongside the road to take a picture of a cotton field…

Introduction to Artist Revenue Streams

In the last part of this series “ Ways Artists Can Create Additional Revenue Streams” we discussed the two types of revenue streams: Sole Effort and Collaborative/Contractual Effort and you were given the homework to write out your base requirements for what you envision your future self to be doing in your art business website. This will be the foundation on which we build what you actually need.

As I mentioned before, this is advice I wish I would’ve gotten YEARs ago, but no one broke it down into actionable steps, all I knew is I wanted a website and…
